Amnesty International
Amnesty International is a human rights organization interested
in maintaining and gaining the freedom of prisoners of conscience,
political prisoners and eliminating the practice of human torture
throughout the world. The club concerns itself with activities designed
to achieve the goals of Amnesty International. Enrollment will be
limited to 20.
Art Club
The focus of the Art Club is to promote and foster an enriching
art experience in the St. Teresa's community and as an outreach
toward local art communities. In the past we have raised money for
elementary level art programs within Kansas City. This exhibit,
Kids With Crayons, was successful in funding art supplies to schools
with creative supply needs. The students also designed a school
t-shirt, created holiday ornaments for staff, scheduled visiting
artist for lectures, and went into the art community to gain a first
hand experience of the art scene. Participating in the Art Club
is an excellent opportunity for creative minds to perpetuate goodwill.
Care Club
CARE: A service club for sophomores, juniors and seniors. Our purpose is to help freshmen and new upper-class students to adjust successfully to St.Teresa's during their first year. Nominations are accepted and approved by the club members during sophomore, junior and senior year. Interested students must be strong in areas of leadership, self-motivation, and be full of good ideas and time to help new students adjust to St. Teresa's. Care Club will also work closely with the surrounding community devoting time, energy and "material aid" to people in need. Membership is open.
French Club
The French Club is intended for French students who are genuinely
interested in the French language and culture. A variety of activities
will be planned for each meeting by the members. French Club members
must be willing to devote outside school time to the club. A questionnaire
must be submitted to be considered for membership. Membership
is limited by 25.
Latin Club
The goals of the Latin Club are to promote interest in Latin: to initiate, improve and supplement excellence in student experiences of Latin. It is designed to broaden the student's knowledge of Mythology and to seek cultural enrichment through events designed to experience the language and the people. The STA Latin is affiliated with the Junior Classical League, a national organization for the study of classics.
National Honor Society (NHS)
An acedemic club devoted to scholarship, service and leadership. Application is made in the winter of sophmore or junior year. Qualifications include: 3.6 cumalitive GPA, 15 hours of service to STA, 15 hours of service to the community, leadership and character.
STA Book Club
The Literature Club is dedicated to promoting recreational reading within the STA and greater Kansas City communities. The focus of the club is to increase students' reading and their enjoyment thereof. The main activities of the club include reading, small group book discussions and possible field trips to literary and cultural events, exchanging of book titles and authors. Membership is by application only and members must complete a membership profile. Due to the nature of the club activities, membership will be limited to 12.
STA Community Service Club
Students will help with planning and organizing outreach opportunities for the STA community. We are open to new ideas and ways to meet the needs of our community in response to the challenge of the Gospel to love one another. Willing hands and hearts are welcome! Meet in the cafeteria.
SADD
SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving) is a club which organizes
projects to raise awareness and improve knowledge and attitudes
about the serious dangers of drunk driving. You will need to submit
a one page summary of your reasons for joining and projects you
would like to see SADD sponsor. There is a $5 membership fee.
SAGA
The SAGA Club is a club for those of us who care about our earth, and who are happily willing to help clean up our STA campus and the KC community, and to promote awareness of both local and global ecological issues. We do lots of stuff from recycling paper and cans all over the campus, to picking up trash in the parking lot and across the campus. We have lots of fun, and if you care lots about the world in which live and would like to help us keep it clean, beautiful, and healthy, you should join SAGA. Limit 25 members
Science Club
Science Club invites students who are interested in all Science issues and enjoying nature. We will make bird feeders, take walks on campus, and plan other activities to explore the outdoors. One of our regular responsibilities is recycling paper in the Donnelly Building.
Spanish Club
Spanish Club is an organization formed to promote student involvement
in and understanding of the language and cultures of Hispanics throughout
the world. In general, the club focuses on learning about the Hispanic
cultures by participating in activities within STA and also the
KC Metro area. Typical activities may include: celebrating various
Hispanic holidays, listening to guest speakers, and trying Hispanic
foods or visiting cultural centers. Anyone who would like to join
the Spanish Club should fill out an application. The list of members
(20) will be posted during club registration so if per chance you
are not accepted as a member this year, you will have the opportunity
to sign up for another club at that time. Although previous members
will be given special consideration, they still must fill out an
application and are not guaranteed to become a member. Keep in mind
when applying that we are looking for all grade levels, new ideas
and the willingness to be an active participant. The only requirement
is that you are currently enrolled in Spanish class. Buena Suerte.
Spirit Club
The Spirit Club is a great way to show your STA spirit. We attend
school events (like games and plays) and boost school spirit by
special events during the year. If you would like to join, (THERE
ARE TEN OPENINGS FOR 9TH GRADERS ONLY), write an essay about your
reason to join the spirit club and any new ideas you would like
to contribute. All spirit club members sign a contract for membership
and are expelled from the club if they break their contract.If we
receive more than ten essays from the 9th grades, the ten new members
will be chosen by lottery.
SCO
Student Community Organization consists of representatives from
each class and elected officers. SCO is equivalent to a Student
Council. Its primary goal is to develop good relationships among
students, faculty and administration. SCO sponsors a wide variety
of activities in hopes of providing opportunities for students and
faculty to interact on a more relaxed basis. Building a strong community
is always at the heart of it decisions. President and vice-president
are seniors; secretary and treasurer may be juniors or seniors.
Freshmen interested in serving as an SCO representative are asked
to write a short essay stating their qualifications and their reasons
for wanting to be a member of SCO. The six freshmen representatives
will be chosen by the basis of their essays.
Thespian Club
Thespian Club represents those students who have been initiated
or who are soon to be initiated into the International Thespian
Society. There will be guest speakers and theater workshops designed
to improve and enhance the theater student's experience. Any student
interested in getting involved in theater is welcome to join if
they can commit to participating with school productions.
